Stigmonose
In earlier editions of this publication, stigmonose was used as a collective term to designate surface depressions and distortions of apple fruits that were attributed to feeding activities of sucking insects. Some of those disorders have been shown to be caused by mineral deficiencies and water stress conditions, so the term has lost much of its original meaning. Therefore the term, stigmonose, should be abandoned.
