Bruises
Although bruising has been substantially reduced by improved methods for handling, packing, and storing apples, bruises are still a major defect in the quality of apples at the retail level. The number of bruises found at this level is an accumulation of those that occur on the trees during harvest, packing, storage, transit, and handling.
